Young Ceilidh Musicians wanted.....

The Tayside Institute, Newburgh, will be hosting a St Patricks Day Ceilidh on 14th March 2009. This will be in aid of the Newburgh Community Trust. The Trust will be organising the day and the band will be organised by local musician David J Ford.

Building on the Monday night Youth Club guitar workshop at the Tayside Institute, we need lead players to join the guitarist & keyboard players. Accordion & fiddle are currently among the highest in demand.

It’s hoped that the Ceilidh can be seen as a goal for youngsters who have never yet played live, to work for, although experienced youngsters will of-course add valuable momentum & confidence.

There are adults ready in back-up if needed but it is hoped that a mainly or exclusively 16 & under band be formed for the event with roles swapping throughout the night for different dances.

North Howe Transition Toun Public Meeting
‘Preparing for a Changing Future’
Tuesday 18th November 8 pm – 10 pm.
Letham village hall.
Free event.

Presentation and exploration of our next steps.

During 2008 the North Howe Transition Toun has hosted a series of awareness raising events looking at the possible effects of peak oil and climate change on our local community and asking what people would like to see happen in this area. In the past two months we have also had an informative session on eco-renovating one’s home, as well as the successful launch of our Transition Tavern.

There are a growing number of local people interested in becoming more actively involved in practical projects to help us all prepare for a changing future. This meeting is an opportunity to express your views and become involved. The evening will begin with a presentation on the Transition model, including examples of what other Transition Initiatives have achieved (for example local food, transport and energy projects). There will then be space for discussion and exploration of ideas for our local area and towards the end of the evening we will form action groups to take the ideas forward and develop specific projects.

Come and contribute – ideas and action!

21st February -What a load of rubbish!
A new refuse collection programme for Letham has been announced by Fife Council. This will affect households who used to get a weekly uplift on Fridays. In essence this means rubbish and recycled paper/cardboard being uplifted on alternate weeks. Seems like a sensible idea and one way of encouraging people to recycle more. Click here for a calendar of uplifts. Further information on uplifts can be found on the Fife Council Website or by calling the Recycling Helpline on 08451 55 00 22.  The helpline is open from 8am until 8pm Monday to Friday.

20th February - Check out a new local site
If you haven't already been there- check out

www.SmartCommunityFife.org.uk

This is a new lottery funded website serving the Howe of Fife communities which is a lot better and professionally designed than this feeble effort! We share much of the same aims and objectives, neither is moneymaking and there's plenty of room for us both in cyberspace so please do take a trip over! The SmartCommunityFife site allows you to add content yourself- there is some scope for that on the Letham site but every time I do that it gets filled with adverts for Viagra! If you want something on, just get in touch

Gardeners Question Time
Have your Greenfingers Manicured with well known local Horticulturalsists inclusing Bob Mitchell and Willie Duncan.

And If that's not enough to tempt you then your £5 entry all gets you a glass of wine!
